LaSalle County Historical Society & Museum
Programs - One Room School Room Book

Rural school book pre-sales

“Remembering the Rural Schools in LaSalle County”
A book that chronicles LaSalle County’s rural one-room schools will be available for pre-publication reservations after Nov. 1, 2007.

The book, “Remembering the Rural Schools in LaSalle County,” will include memories from people who experienced one-room schools, either as students or as teachers. In addition, there will be information about schools in every township. It will include stories, pictures, names of students and teachers, sample report cards, certificates, and other memorabilia recalling a bygone era.

The one-room school was the center of the rural community for many years, and at one time LaSalle County had more one-teacher schools than any other county in the nation.

A special kind of education was shared there, and character-building principles of a kind not seen today were taught in these primitive schools. The schools of the past are too much a part of our heritage to be forgotten.

Reserve your pre-publication copy by contacting Luceille Werner at 815-667-4861 before Nov. 1, 2007.
