History Fair Projects Sought for Showcasing

The LaSalle County Historical Society extends an invitation to a special one-time opportunity that awaits all area people who have created history fair projects as students. Illinois history fairs have been annual students events for over 45 year and a wealth of historical research has been gathered and preserved through projects created by student participants.

In honor of the La Salle County Historical Society Centennial Year, an area wide history fair and exhibition will be held Sat., April 21 in Utica. All who have created history fair projects in the past are invited to show case their work and receive additional recognition for their efforts. Each participant will receive an award and special monetary incentives will be presented compliments of Utica Merchants, The Canal Corridor Association, Friends of the Canal and other supportive sponsors.

The Utica museum complex will be open with a variety of artisan demonstrations and scheduled historic walking tour. There will also be special entertainment by the Lockport Cannalers group and the musical group Gallimaufry. This will be an educational, living history opportunity for the entire community with special honors being given to students who research, and preserve history through their projects.

Exhibits, documentaries, and performance projects are invited to attend the event with several major awards being given out including  $l50, $100, and $50 awards from Friends of the Canal and several other monetary awards from other contributors. A panel of judges will select the top entries and awards will be distributed at a 1:30 ceremony in the Waltham South (Utica School) gymnasium.

This event is open to all projects and we encourage students who created projects in past years to submit them as entries. Summary statement inclusion is encouraged but not required. The more projects to share with the public the better as this is a showcase event.

Project set up will be from 8-9 A.M. at the Utica School Gymnasium and take-down will be immediately following the 1:30 awards ceremony.

Those interested may register projects in advance by requesting a form and submitting it by April 14.

Registration Forms requests should be directed toward:
