Burgoo Festival to Feature Two-part Raffle

More than $2,000 in prizes will be raffled during the LaSalle County Historical Society’s 38th annual Burgoo Festival, Sunday, Oct. 7, in downtown Utica, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“This is the nicest group of prizes we’ve ever had, in the 38 years of the Burgoo Festival,” said Dolores Passwater, Burgoo coordinator.

“Our supporters have been so generous that we can offer two separate raffle packages of outstanding prizes,” she added.

Each of the raffle packages includes overnight resort stays. Grizzly Jack’s Grand Bear Lodge has donated a family suite plus water park entrance and breakfast for two. Starved Rock Lodge contributed an overnight stay.

Group One prizes, represented by salmon-colored tickets, include the Grand Bear Lodge overnight with water park admission, valued at $200; a wine tasting party for 20 to 40 people from August Hill Winery, $280-$500; a $50 gift certificate from Weeta’s Boutique; a hand woven Farm Basket by Leesa Tipton, $40; $25 gift certificates from Cedar Creek Ranch, Second Look Antiques, Towpath Collectibles, Woody’s Steak House, and Pat English (personal care products); $20 gift certificates from Bennett Garden Center, Canal Port Restaurant, Flutterby Junction, Hi-Way Restaurant, Nodding Onion, and Skoog’s Bar and Grill.

Group Two prizes, represented by lavender tickets, include the Starved Rock Lodge overnight for two, valued at $200; a cottage overnight for two with breakfast from Lander’s House, $200;  a spa package from the Brightwood Inn, $100; a three pack of wine from Illinois River Winery, $40; a hand-braided rug by Darlene Garner, $50; a wine basket from August Hill Winery, $40; a $25 gift basket from Kristine’s Shower, $25 gift certificates from Cedar Creek Ranch, Duffy’s Tavern, Monte’s Riverside Inn, New Chalet Restaurant, Woody’s Steak House, Pat English (personal care products), and Village Green House Liquor Shop; $20 gift certificates from Captain’s Cove Bar and Grill, Common Ground Book Café, Foothills Organic, Two Sisters Candy and Gifts, and Joy and Ed’s Restaurant.

Raffle tickets are $2 each or $10 for six and may be purchased from the August Hill Winery, Duffy’s Tavern, Skoog’s Bar and Grill, Canal Port Restaurant, Two Sisters Candy and Gifts, Joy and Ed’s Restaurant, the Common Ground Book Café, Society members, at the museum, and at the Burgoo Festival.

The festival, which attracts between 25,000 and 30,000 people, is the major fundraiser of the non-profit organization.

Winning tickets will be drawn at 2 p.m. Sunday on the museum’s patio. Ticket holders need not be present to win.
